Zaplavka Summer Project Recap. - July 1-7, 2003
The Project is over, but the impact will last for generations.
A group of over 20 volunteers from West Huntsville Baptist church joined a team of Ukrainian volunteers, American summer missionaries and regulars from team Dnipr to serve the village of Zaplavka and the new church in that town. For one week in early July, 2003 the team rolled into town each morning to host children's day camp, evangelistic night meetings as well as a church building renovation project. In an ambitious effort the team accomplished a great deal in a short time and many lives will never be the same. The area of where Zaplavka is situated close to several other small towns. Until recently, there has not been a church there, Orthodox or Protestant, in this generation. Last year a small church launched and a baptism was held at a prominent spot on the riverbank as many watched. The church also acquired a small building, much in need of remodeling. The church has been looking forward to this project for nearly a year, excited to be able to launch a children's ministry following the daycamp and also happy to see a team arrive to help get the building ready for church services.
The daycamp drew an average of 50 children a day for fun-&-games, sports, music and Bible stories. Most, if not all of them heard the Gospel presented for the first time. Teachers from the church are now preparing to soon launch a Sunday School for children that want to continue. Please continue to pray for the church growing in Zaplavka.
