Zaporozhye Medical Clinics Recap. - July 28 - August 1, 2003
A Volunteer Medical Team from Churches in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi Hosted Ten Rural Medical Clinics, helping 2500 Patients in 5 Days - while the gospel was preached nonstop to those waiting for treatment! ... Now THAT's a good week.
A 20 member group of medical personnel, pastors, laymen and helpers from a variety of churches arrived in Dnipropetrovsk on July 25 to work alongside "Team Dnipr" in the Zaparozhya region (state) just south of Dnipr. This is the third year in a row this group has come to work with us. The plan was for the group to divide into teams and to conduct two clinics per day for 5 days, for a total of 10 medical clinics. The teams did a wonderful job, energetically setting up and preparing each day, and patiently treating hundreds of patients. Each day, those who came heard the Gospel preached and were given New Testaments. Children were given children's Bibles or literature. The Ukrainian pastor or missionary in each place was present to preach and talk to people about their relationship to Christ and to invite people to their church.
About 2500 patients were registered to receive free medical assistance and treatment by doctors, optometrists, and dentists. All the locations for the clinics were held at, or in close proximity to young churches. Medical facilities are very limited in many of the smaller towns. The goal was to bring in as many as possible for medical treatment, and while the people are there, to share the Gospel with them. In each place this also helps the local people to better understand evangelicals through the tangible help given in the medical clinics. Some places where the clinics were held are just starting out, and the clinic is a great boost to sharing with local people about the new church starting in their town.
Pictures, of course, are worth more than words, so take time to look at the photos here taken from last week's project. Also, please take time to pray that the message of the Gospel, shared with so many in the 10 clinics, will take root in their hearts and turn them toward the Father, who is the only One who can bring lasting change in their lives.
