West Huntsville Baptist Church (Alabama), June 2007

Americans and Ukrainians worship together beside the building where the church has started meeting

The second week of June 2007 was a great week of ministry in partnership with some wonderful folks from West Huntsville Baptist Church (Alabama). A total of 38 Americans together with Ukrainian interpreters, drivers, and other helpers made for a total of around 55 people who were involved in various ministries during the week.

The primary focus for the week was a town called Magdalinovka. This is a country seat town where we have no Baptist church and are working to plant one. We now have a building which is being converted for use as a church for worship and Bible study.

The team worked in four different locations leading Backyard Bible Camps for children. Approximately 240 children were involved in the 4 camps during the week, some of them from schools and orphanages. Two camps were held in Magdalinovka. The group also worked with children in another town, Zaplavka, where we have a young church, and also in the town of Kotovka, in an orphanage where some local believers have worked to ministered to the children there.

The children enjoyed hearing Bible stories each day which shared about His creation, our separation from Him because of the sin in our lives, and His plan for salvation through Jesus Christ His Son. The group shared with the children God’s love for them each day through various crafts that the children greatly enjoyed. They also enjoyed games and refreshments. It was hard to part and go home after the camps, as the volunteers and children had grown to love each other during the week.

Another part of the team worked very hard each day to do repairs and renovations on a building in Magdalinovka where meetings have started for a new church there. They worked to remove interior walls and to strengthen the foundation of the building, as well as to remove some unneeded sheds and other work. The temps were high and this groups worked hard.

Tent where daily camp was held and evangelistic services at night

In the evening there was a series of evangelistic tent services that were led by Ukrainians who drove in from various towns in the area to lead music and preach the gospel. The evening sessions were not highly attended by we do thank God for the 30 of so people who did come and heard the gospel shared in music and preaching.

We thank God for His hand seen during the week and for the partnership He gives us with folks like this group. Pray for the town of Magdalinovka and the new church He is starting there!
