Dnipropetrovsk "Vacilivka" Daycamp Recap. - August 4-8, 2003

Ukrainian Christian College Students Host a Daycamp in the Orphanage Where They Minister Each Week.

Ira (center) is no stranger to many of the kids here. She has been visiting this Children's Home weekly for almost a year.

Summer can by a fun time for many children in Ukraine, especially if they get to experience some kind of camp. Camp is something that all children in the former USSR got to participate in. These days, with economic hard times, few children are able to have that experience to get away with friends, new and old, and make some childhood memories.

Our Ukrainian team that has been going to the orphanage in Vacilivka each Saturday this past year was able to have a day camp for the children in the orphanage there this week. A generous church in TN has helped out in this orphanage for some time, making it possible for the team to return each week and spend time with the children. About 45 children are involved in the day camp program of Bible stories, crafts, games, and sports. Some are guests in the camp and hearing some of the Bible stories for the first time.

Working in the day camp are our Ukrainian partners and members from Team Dnipr (Tim Mabe, Mariah White, Rebekah and Hannah Ray, and summer missionaries Heather Miller and Michelle Roark).

Singing is a big part of any Daycamp in Ukraine.

Pray for these leaders that Christ would shine through them as they work with these children, many of whom come from troubled homes, or have no home or family at all.
