Liberty Baptist Church Project Recap. - June , 2006

Ukrainian and American believers worshipping together on Sunday in the worship space that is being renovated.

In June 2006 a volunteer group came from Liberty Baptist Church near Atlanta to work in a regional center (county seat) town, Simyonovka, which is located in Poltava oblast. Also involved in the project were our summer volunteer workers, the Rowland family from MS (Robby, Felesha, Tuesdae, and Page) and our two summer missionaries from MS, Casey Myers and David Bell. God answered many prayers in wonderful ways as we saw Him work greatly in this project. We conducted children’s outreach projects in two towns: Simyonovka, and Vesyoli Podol. Simyonovka is a key town in that it is a country seat town where we have begun a new church. We had as many as 130 children in a Backyard Bible club camp. New relationships were developed with people like the assistant mayor and teachers and parents who were interested in the ministry of this church. Each evening evangelistic services were held in a large tent where people heard the gospel and were encouraged to come to church.

Pray for children like these, who are shown being taught how to pray, that God will mightily use the truths they were taught.

In addition, the group also worked very hard to help renovate the building the church is meeting in. They were involved in some very “dirty work” of chipping away wall surfaces for renovation work to be done, and by preparing the by preparing walls and floor surfaces for renovation work.

A second ministry was conducted in the town of Vesyoli Podol, where there is still no Baptist church. We were very well received there, having 60 children to come to the Backyard Bible camp. A good number of adults also came to watch and talk with the church planter who will be working to start a church there in that town. The director of the community building where we met was very favorable to us and, although not himself yet a believer, personally invited all the children to come to the children's ministry that will begin in this town this coming week, due to God's working through this project. We plan to do a medical clinic there later in the summer and hope to see a new church developing there by this fall.

These children are shown leaving the day camp in Simyonovka, which was held in a large tent. Evangelistic services were held each evening in this tent.

Please pray for the people of this town, for the other requests listed below related to the future there.

Please Pray:

  • That God will continue to open the hearts and doors of the people in Simyonovka and Vesyoli Podol. There are so many there that do not know Him.
  • That God will bless and anoint Yura, the church planter who is responsible for the new work in both of these two towns.
  • That God will open the way for children to be permitted by their parents to come to the children's ministries, and that He will bless the two ladies preparing to work with them: Tanya and Oksana.
  • That God will plant a new church in the town of Vesyoli Podol.

A continual matter of Prayer:

In East Central Ukraine there are approximately 3000 towns that do not have a Baptist church. Pray that God will call out and equip hundreds of Ukrainian men and women to be involved and committed to starting new churches.

Games and fun are of course an important part of any summer activity with children, and our camp was no exception.
